Register now for the Censorship in the Sciences Conference
Join us January 10-12 in Southern California for panels, talks, and lively discussions about scientific censorship.
Registration for the Censorship in the Sciences: Interdisciplinary Perspectives conference is now live! This event will take place on the University of Southern California campus from January 10 to 12, hosted by the USC Dornsife Center for Economic and Social Research.
About the conference:
We’re bringing together experts from both within and outside academia to address a series of contentious questions surrounding scientific censorship today. This includes:
How does censorship of scientists or scientific ideas manifest?
When, if ever, does rejection of manuscripts for publication or grants for funding constitute censorship?
How much of a role, if any, should ethical or moral concerns play in deciding which scientific ideas are disseminated?
What are the likely costs and benefits of institutionalized censorship, how do we decide, and who decides, when the benefits outweigh the costs?
When and how do university administrations and funding agencies, through either action or inaction, mask censorship by finding ostensibly “other” reasons to silence scientists?
By bringing together experts with widely varying perspectives on censorship from within the natural sciences, social sciences, philosophy, humanities, and law we aim to host a civil conversation and sharpen the understanding of what scientific censorship is, what it is not, and whether it’s ever justified.
This conference includes keynote presentations, invited talks, and panel discussions. Additional details, including a full schedule of events, will be coming soon. View the complete list of speakers here»
